IB · Mathematics
IB Mathematics asks for more than method-following. Students need to understand concepts, choose a suitable approach and communicate their reasoning clearly, sometimes with a calculator and sometimes without.
These lessons are built around your subject guide and your goals, whether you are keeping up with a new topic, preparing for mock exams or planning your Mathematical Exploration.
At Diploma level, IB Mathematics is offered as Analysis and Approaches (AA) or Applications and Interpretation (AI), each at Standard Level (SL) or Higher Level (HL). Which one is right depends on the student's strengths and future plans, and is decided together with the school.
Younger students in the Middle Years Programme (MYP) build the foundations that later courses rely on: algebra, functions, geometry and statistics.
A consultation comes first: what the student finds difficult, where they are heading and how much time remains. From there, lessons alternate between clarifying concepts and practising exam-style questions, so understanding and technique develop together.
