A tutoring session works best when the student arrives with something specific to work on.
Before the lesson
- Note the two or three questions or topics that caused the most trouble.
- Have your book, notes and a pen ready, plus a stable internet connection.
- Attempt homework first so the tutor can see where you got stuck.
During the lesson
Ask why, not just how. If a step is unclear, say so straight away. Explaining a method back in your own words is one of the quickest ways to find gaps.
After the lesson
Do a few similar questions within a day or two. That is when the lesson turns into lasting understanding.
